261027 Felted Collage with Lori Demange

We will make a collage by using prefelted wool–we will use a needle-felting needle to lightly attach our designs to a wool background, and then we will wet felt the entire piece with rubbing and rolling to create an interesting piece of felt art.

You will use scissors, a special needle-felting needle, and soap and water. I will bring many colors of prefelts for you to work with. Many of the prefelts I have been dyeing at home, and the hand-dyed look is very dynamic. In two of the images I show here, I have cut out abstract shapes; in another image you can see my botanical design. You can cut out any shapes you want–animals, plants, objects, geometric shapes, etc.

During the class, you will hear about the different types of wool that we will be using, the process of coaxing wool fibers to connect to each other, and the special color combinations we need to consider when working with wool.

Please note: I will supply all the wool, all the prefelts, all the needle-felting needles that you need.

Supply List: Please bring the following:

• 4 hand towels

• 1 bath towel

• sharp scissors

• sewing needle

• ball brause for wetting ( if you have one)

• Lunch

Biography: Lori has been felting for 10 years. She has studied felting with felt artists like Fiona Duthie, Anika Boros, and Judit Pocs. Lori has taught several felting classes and loves to share her excitement for the magic of wool. She enjoys experimenting with this ancient art form to discover many modern possibilities.
